Dog Training: STOP Begging
QUICK TIP: My call on the Design your own dog house
Unfortunately, this is not the dogs fault and it started a very long time ago. Some horribly misguided individual who tried to be a good pet owner did this while the puppy was still very young and trained dog for this very behavior. Want to know who taught your dog this trick? There is a secret so listen carefully … it was you.
Now before you get upset and stop reading, take a moment to realize that you were not consciously train your pet for this unwanted behavior, and you did it with the best intentions. No one is blaming you, but the behavior is here now and must be addressed. Knowing how to solve the problem is easier when knowing whence it came, and now I am sure that you start to find out. Your dog learned this trick from all those times, but well-meaning you were, they were small scraps of food thrown down to a cute little puppy that looked up with sad brown eyes, leaving you overwhelmed with guilt that you looked at his dish of dog kibble and your plate of steak and potatoes. The moments when the warm-hearted generosity over stepped their boundaries and created the begging monster that we can browse your mother in laws chair over today for a bit of beef tips. All this could have been prevented by a simple act of will power then, but now you have a problem to handle.
So how do we stop this begging Fiend? The first step is to do what you should have done when Fido was still a puppy and stop rewarding the behavior, both by not giving in and not pay attention to it, may limit the animal’s kennel or a separate room during meal or snack times If this is difficult. This proposal is particularly useful if you have small children in the household who tend to reward the animal with the foods that they do not favor. Make sure everyone in your household knows not to share their meals with the dog and follows this rule regardless of circumstance.
When the dog is not rewarded in the way he is accustomed to, the real battle begins. He will decide that he is not getting enough attention and starts to whine and scream loud in complaint of the treatment. Do not give in or the battle is lost and will be harder in the next round. The process will take consistent work for several weeks and a weak moment of slipping the dog a treat just to be nice can ruin everything before training so standing on the ground and enforce the rule about not giving meal time treats to your dog is a must.
Some useful ideas to stop the begging is appropriate to mention here. A big one is to feed the dog while the family eats, preferably in a separate room. This way the dog has his own meal and will not feel the need to take food from others in the household. If this is not an option, maybe give your pet a toy to play with, and thus keep them occupied throughout the meal.
No matter how you choose to handle the situation, Consistent and rigid training is the only effective way to correct it. Each member and guest in your household must enforce the rules, or all your work will be to no avail. But if you follow these rules, you will be blessed with a healthy pet, a happier household and pride in your friendly canine friend.

Dog House Training – First Socialization Lesson
Because puppy socialization goes hand in hand with proper training, clicker training is the perfect tool for socialization because the method is all about positive reinforcement, and socialization should always be positive.
A clicker is a noise maker that can clearly mark the exact moment of a desired behavior, and in the beginning stages of clicker training, is the noise followed by a treat. For example, when a puppy sits, click and treat for sitting. In order to improve socialization, for example, you can click and treat when the puppy moves slightly towards a frightening object or noise.
Many novice trainers make the mistake of not reward positive behavior. Positive behavior is rewarded is repeated. If the puppy is quiet in his bed while vacuuming, you can stop to click and reward. Chances are your puppy good behavior will be repeated
I’ll give you a perfect analogy: if your boss gave you a 10 dollar bill and when he saw you to deliver his mail to his desk, would not you make a daily habit to deliver mail with the hope that $ 10 will appear again? This is exactly the same with your puppy. The socialization process should be fun and rewarding for your dog, so do not skimp on the treats and praise.
first puppy socialization Lesson
One of the first puppy socialization lessons will be the introduction to his new family and surroundings. This should be as enjoyable and stress-free as possible for your puppy. To start, get the whole family to sit down in a circle with their feet touching, create a little barrier, and put the puppy’s crate in the middle. Open the door
slowly and let the puppy come out of the box at their own pace and go to each family member to visit and check out their new home. Some puppies zip right out, but others are slower and more deliberate.
Be patient and praise and pet the puppy as it makes its way to visit you. As the puppy becomes more familiar, lay down flat on the door and let it crawl on you and investigate. Play with your puppy, cuddly and plant kisses on her puppy nose.
You can use the same technique any time your dog meet new people. But if you invite the whole neighborhood to see the new puppy, let it meet people one or two at a time so it gets used to the idea of strangers. It can be overwhelming for a new puppy to be immersed in a crowd at once.

Dog Training – Five Simple Steps to Stop Your Puppy From Chewing
You got your new pet almost a week ago. At that time, the little animal eaten three pairs of shoes, four of your favorite Stephen King novels (He left Cujo alone … Maybe he’s a fan too?), Gnawed the trim around the bathroom doorway, chewed through the power cord to the laptop, and just this morning, you found him gleefully chewing up your wallet with a side order of credit cards. This gets expensive very fast and is becoming dangerous for the puppy as well. Maybe it’s time we intervened?
So how do we handle this situation? Again, we want to make sure our young charge is healthy to begin, so off to the vets office if you have not been lately. It is a medical condition that can cause chewing in pups aside from the normal tendencies they have of chewing to explore their world. This illness is called Pica and causes your pet to eat non-food items in an attempt to deal with nausea. So you can go to the vet and make sure the animal has a clean bill of health.
The next step involves understanding that, while chewing is a normal and healthy part of any puppy development, the acceptable and unacceptable outlets. Puppies learn about their world by chewing much the same as human children. They use their senses to explore the new world that lies ahead of them and their tactile sense, and sense of taste is brought into play as they chew on various objects. Much like human children, pups also need our protection from the dangers that lurk in their investigations. Electrical cords, needles, poisonous houseplants and household items, even chocolate, everything is very real threats to your pet. It is your duty to protect the animal from these dangers.
Consistent training with “NO” command can do this. No is a word your dog should learn early and respond immediately. This one word has saved many dogs from many horrible fates. The puppy is trained by repeatedly using the “NO” command every time a situation arises. If you pet is caught chewing on your shoes, say “NO” in an affirmative tone and take the item from the animal. Do not let it become a game of tug-o-war. Rather, remove the item quickly or back up your “NO” with a spray from a water bottle, a loud clapping of hands or a light but convincing tap on the nose. This little diversion is usually enough to make a dog lose interest in what they may have been chewed on. Also, do not hunt an animal chewing on an undesirable selection of chew toy. It will interpret this action to be a game and they will be most happy to play for hours on end. Instead, calmly work your way towards the animal and then remove the object. For items that have a fixed mistreated, a chemical additive such as Bitter Apple to be to impart a foul taste to the item and make it unpalatable for the animal to chew on. Crate training is also effective to stop chewing behavior and we shall discuss this course at length in later articles.
You do not want to completely destroy your dogs urge to chew however as this habit is healthy for them when exercised correctly. Instead, offer them suitable objects for their chewing pleasure. Perhaps a dog toy (For quieter households, remove any toys from Squeak.) Rope toys and crunchy dog biscuits provide good outlets for a dog destructive behavior and also help to keep up the oral hygiene of your pet.
Please also note that all animals are different. Your dog may react differently than another dog in a given situation. Some dogs develop aggressive substances while trying to remove an object from their possession. If your dog becomes aggressive and territorial, then professional help is recommended to avoid further problems or biting. NTNU
With these simple tips, you can insure your pups’ good health and well being of your book collection. You can also find time to spend some quality time reading Cujo again with your new best friend.

Dogs for Defense: Military Dog Training During World War II
A patriotic government donated dogs to be trained for military functions. In all, the military received nearly 20,000 dogs, but made use of only about half of those available. The other was found, for a variety of reasons, to be unfit for their purpose and were returned to their owners.
Mount Quartermaster Branch of the Army program managed and delivered service dogs for all branches of the military during the war. Although the Navy and the Coast Guard finally made use of service dogs provided by the dogs for Defense.
Dogs were subjected to their own version of Army boot camp, a training program that lasted eight to twelve weeks. The program involved general obedience training and military-specific training. Dogs learned specific exercises that would help them in their army careers and themselves were trained to operate while wearing gas masks. Training duties were handled by the Quartermaster staff who followed a training regimen established by the army and codified in an army technical manual. Service dogs were trained on a number of military installations throughout the United States
dogs were trained for a variety of tasks. Sentry dogs were the most needed by the dogs of Defense. In fact, over nine thousand of the dogs trained by the military used this feature. Sentry dogs worked as guard dogs at military installations and military-protected sensitive civilian sites. They were to give warning to the soldiers from intruders. Scout dogs filled a similar need, but was trained to operate in silence to help “sniff out” snipers and other hazards. Messenger dogs were trained to courier materials between the soldiers in both combat and non-combat situations. The Army even gave specific groups of sled dogs for possible use during the war.
One of the most interesting features is performed by dogs for the defense were to serve as my dogs. The dogs were specially trained to seek out mines and booby traps. There were two units of my dogs. Both were deployed in the North African campaign. But the experiment did not work as planned. The dogs were unable to perform the functions they were trained and mine dog project was discontinued.
unsuccessful attempt to use dogs to find mines was one of the only aspects of the dogs of Defense program that fell short of expectations. Overall, the program was a huge success and the well-trained dogs served his country admirably.
particular note was a war dog named Chips. Chips had been trained Sentry duty, but was seen breaking away from his coach during a match situation in Sicily. According to those who observed the events, attacked an enemy machine gun Chips nest and seized one of the soldiers. His heroics were legendary and Chips from the story was eventually made into a film. Even Chips are certainly the most famous of the so-called war dogs, many other trained dogs made important contributions to the Allied war effort.
After the war, Dogs for Defense returned to their original owners. This required another training session to re-acclimate the veteran dogs to civilian life. All indications are that the dogs responded well to return to their pre-war lifestyle. The return of the first war dogs, but not mark an end to the use of dogs in the military.
After World War dogs served the U.S. military in several theaters. Many dogs saw combat duty in Viet Nam (in fact, was the twenty-eight dogs died during the war) and in the Persian Gulf War. To this day the U.S. Army continues to train dogs for service. These dogs not only demonstrate the potential for good training methods for learning complex skills, but also the capacity of dogs to help owners and country in a variety of ways.

Improve Your Dog’s Behavior Through Exercise
Often we hear complaints about dogs that are simply uncontrollable. They participate in destructive behavior with no obvious or apparent reason. They may dig the dreaded backyard holes, destroy property, or simply be difficult animals with whom to get along. These problems may be the result of a number of things, but quite often the cause of such problems is nothing more than idleness. A dog that is not sufficiently exercised will find other outlets for their energies. Unfortunately, when left to their own devices to find an outlet, a dog very well choose less than appreciated activity.
Professional coaches have long understood the value of training a dog. Not only is the physical activity is beneficial for the animal, Aos health. Regular exercise in a controlled manner also serves to reduce the likelihood of destructive and inappropriate behavior. Instead of having to invent the means by which to expend his energy, the dog is exercised in a directed manner and incidents of inappropriate behavior decline.
Simply put, if you do not, AOT find a way to wear out your dog, your dog will find a way to wear you out! His idle paws will become a source of great frustration if not otherwise occupied. This will train your dog consistently improve his behavior a great deal.
Many dog owners, but find it difficult to find ways to adequately exercise their pets. This may be due to schedule or space limitations. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to exercise a dog.
The most traditional means of dog training is still one of the most effective: simply walking the dog can do wonders. We too often tend to reduce walking the dog to a short trip as short as is necessary for him to tend to his elimination needs. Although dog walking certainly serves this purpose, it is important to recognize that it is going one, Aos dog also holds promise to improve their behavior through training. Instead of cutting a walk short once his Äúbusiness, AU is done, it is better to continue the trip for a longer period. Use the walk as exercise, Aias well as a great bonding opportunity.
Playing fetch is a great means by which a dog can be exercised. Even in a closed room, a small dog get quite a workout from a quick game of fetch. For those owners who do not feel particularly active, there is a great alternative to an extended trip, as it requires little or no real effort on the part of the owner. One can play fetch indoors with a smaller dog while watching a TV program or just relax in an armchair.
Some have found they are able to train their dogs to walk on an indoor treadmill. If your dog is susceptible to exploit a treadmill, you can get all the benefits of long trips without having to leave home. Using a treadmill may not interest all dogs, however, and you are advised not to purchase a treadmill solely for the use of a dog for that very reason.
There really is no limit to how many ways you can find to exercise their dog. Each dog and each situation is at least slightly different, but all hold in common the presence of opportunities for quality training. These possibilities can not be overlooked. Regular and significant exercise will improve a dog, Aos health, create more opportunities for dog and owner interaction and can lead to incredible improvements in behavior.

Dog Training – Reward Good Behavior
We know the benefits of positive enforcement during exercise, but how can we add some variety to our reward? There are many ways to reward your dog, and they vary widely. These range from simple things like petting the dog or scratching the ears of the more elaborate treats such as homemade gourmet treats. Rule of behavioral rewards is this: Always be sure to give the reward immediately after the desired behavior is performed.
A great idea for a reward is playtime with your pet. Most dogs enjoy a quick game of tug-o-war or hunting. Some dogs will also show creativity and turn the game of hide-hunting, duck behind the bushes, trees or other obstacles, and then timidly peeking out from their hiding places to see if you follow. Your pet enjoys spending time with you, so make this a reward that is often used as it greatly increases the bond between you and the animal.
Other good idea to reward your dog’s time with a favorite toy. One of my personal favorites are dogs Kong toy line. This is a great toy that they are very durable, dishwasher-safe and is great for teaching your dog problem in itself. This hard rubber toy is shaped like a pyramid of balls balanced one atop the other and hollow in the middle. The hollow part is where the problem-solving skills come into play. Many trainers will stuff these toys with all sorts of goodies and treats before giving them to their pets. Depending on how tightly they are stuffed and what items you use, unstuffing them can be an all day project for your pet. (A digression:. Filled Kong toys can be a bit messy, it is recommended that they be kept as an outside reward or easily cleaned surfaces such as vinyl or tile floor) Do you have any recipe ideas for stuffed Kong toys can also be used as snacks in the absence by King toy?
Is your dog a fan of your Philly Steak sandwich? Does he sit raptly at your feet, eyes focused and savory, just ask that you let a little snack, so he can bleed in and take it? Maybe he wants his own doggy-safe version? To do this, hold the Kong toy upside down with the big hole at the top and fill it with small beef scraps or thin slices of beef used by Philly steak connoisseurs. Next we must add about one ounce of cream cheese to the top of steak, steak and thus seals the inside of the toy with a tasty treat. You can also add vegetables, if your dog likes them. For variations of this recipe consider using lean beef stew meat, chicken or turkey for a small business off the beaten track.
Maybe you and your dog are morning people. While I’m not going to join the clique, I’ll share with you an idea that my dogs like for breakfast, although it is not usually served in this house until after one in the afternoon. It consists of eggs, cheese and vegetables along with a large helping of love. Again we turn Kong toys and push the grand opening with food. I usually start with scrambled eggs and a little of what meat we could have had for breakfast sausage, ham or bacon. My dogs also like some vegetables such as carrots and peas. This mixture is then topped with cheese to hold all the ingredients together and melted slightly in the microwave oven. After microwaving, be sure to provide sufficient cooling time to treat safe for your pet. For some variety, try different vegetables such as broccoli or cauliflower, or maybe add some mashed potatoes and gravy for a really messy treat.
race dog days summer what could be finer than a puppy popsicle? These are quite easy to make. First seal the small end of the Kong toy with a small treat such as a piece of meat like a sausage or something Braunschweiger and then invert the toy. Support it in a heavy coffee mug and fill it with chicken or beef broth and perhaps small tidbits of meat. Then place it all in the freezer overnight and voila! You have a cold treat that will last all day long.
If we treat our pets well and reward them frequently, they will be eager to make us happy by providing all behavior requires our attention. These treats and rewards do much to add to our relationships with our pets, and time spent in the preparation of these dishes show them we care.
